COLUMBITE is composed of oxides of NIOBIUM, IRON and MANGANESE [(Fe, Mn) Nb206] and TANTALITE is composed of oxides of TANTALUM, IRON AND MANGANESE [(Fe, Mn) Ta205] in any proportion.
These oxides constitute a solid solution of both minerals, are scarce in nature and provide a clear example of materials that have gone from being considered simple mineralogical curiosities to crucial elements for technological progress due to their new applications in the technological world of our times.
Recent scientific analyses have been conducted with our 2.5 TM NITON XL4T mineral alloys, with the need to obtain greater coltan capacity for improved use of the mineral. After the maximum necessary testing of the combination in Thermo Scientific with other non-contaminating minerals it was shown that the mixture of a special mineral with coltan helps to coerce the compound, carrying the coltan mineral's molecular function and fusion to the extreme, exposing the mineral's base concentration to the maximum and achieving an optimum binding of its components (columbite and tantalite).
Their separation is facilitated by their lower density of only 3.65. It is suitable for storage and as with the other named minerals there is no form of contamination.
